Sorry for this late condolence but I just learned of Mr. Winkel’s death. He was my teacher for Aviation and Physics. I also was part of the chess/wargame club that he sponsored. He had a way to convey information and make it interesting. He was telling a story- describing things you could relate to. He also tolerated a lot of practical jokes (like when we stacked all the classroom desks in the lab room and left a note from a fictitious janitor that the floor was being waxed).
Mr. Winkel prepared me for life more than I ever knew then. He cared. And I will always be grateful. Thank you Mr. Winkel.
Doug Edwards - NAHS Class of ‘74.

Mr.Winkel was my physics teacher and my first (and late husband’s) FAVORITE teacher of all time. I can imagine them comparing notes there. I know he’s having fun on the other side.

The scene is Mr. Winkel's Physics class. His students are engaged in a Physics experiment that requires stop watches. One student's watch is not functioning. Said student approaches Mr. Winkel and asks for another watch. Mr. Winkel responds: "Retrieve my wind-up watch from the top drawer at my desk." Student does as told and comes back with a puzzled look on his face and says to Mr. Winkel: " I don't know how to make it tick." Mr. Winkel responds: "Just wind it up and it starts to tick." Said student does as told and the watch begins to move. Student looks up at Mr. Winkel and says: "Gosh Mr. Winkel, what are they going to think of next?" Thank you Frank for all the laughs. I was honored to be your colleague and golf mate. I shall miss you a lot. Dan Blaschak

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Winkle and the family. When I think of Mr. Winkle, I envision the look on his face when teaching Physics at NASH. He thoroughly enjoyed working in his lab with his students. His sense of humor was obvious by the twinkle in his eyes as he joked in class. He will truly be missed. Blessings to his family and friends from the Pidcoe Family.

Dear Pat and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Frank's passing. I am consoled that I have the memory of a wonderful, funny and delightful man who was dedicated to his family, his church and his students. I will be away on 6/26 and 6/27 and cannot share my condolences in person. Please know that I keep your family in my prayers and I know Frank will continue to send his light to each of you as he is now so close to the Lord. May he rest in peace. Love, Winkie VanderNeut

To Pete and family,
Your father was a great man, I remember in physics class he would call me by my last name.
He will be missed. May his memory always be a blessing.
