Obituary of John Alexander Tammany

John Alexander Tammany, 66, of Plymouth Meeting, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, on January 31, 1958, to the late Thomas Alexander and Mary Agnes (McDermott) Tammany, John was a graduate of Archbishop Kennedy High School and West Chester University. Following that, he proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Army from 1981 to 1986.

John was known for his carefree demeanor and deep devotion to his family and friends. He always approached life with a smile and was quick to welcome countless friends into his home, treating everyone like family. His love for his wife, Mary Beth (Peroni) Tammany, and their children, Lauren (Benjamin) Tiede, Kara (Jack) Castleberry, Christine Tammany, and John Tammany, was evident in all he did. John cherished and spoiled his granddaughters, Claire, Anna and Cora Tiede and Amelia and Harper Castleberry, and he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a sixth grandchild this fall.

In his free time, John enjoyed listening to Motown and Bruce Springsteen, which you could hear him singing happily while he worked around the house. He was always searching for the perfect Corvette, and loved rooting for the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers and Villanova Wildcats. A man of deep faith, John was a devout parishioner of Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Plymouth Meeting.

John is also survived by his siblings, Thomas Tammany, Kathleen (late Gilbert) Dobbins and Karen (Anthony) Giannone, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss his positive spirit and generosity.

John will be remembered for his kindness, welcoming nature, and the joy he brought to the lives of those around him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 3050 Walton Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA, with visitation from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, PA.

John visited Calvary frequently and supported the upkeep of fellow veterans laid to rest there. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wreaths Across America Calvary Cemetery Fund at https://wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/180397
