I just heard from a friend that Rajni Mehta passed away at the age of 81. I’m deeply saddened by the news.
Rajni and I grew up together in Mehmadavad till we were 18 years old. We were classmates all through high school. We played cricket and all kinds of Desi games on the same ground. Rajni wasn’t very athletic, but he was incredibly smart and always did so well in class. We constantly joked around and made fun of each other — those were such good times.
After high school, we went our separate ways for further studies and, sadly, lost touch. It’s hard to believe that more than 60 years have gone by without reconnecting. I learned about his life and accomplishments only from his obituary — and I couldn’t be prouder of what he achieved.
May his soul rest in peace, and may the Mehta family find comfort and strength in the beautiful memories they shared with him
